1.5 Day Algonquin Park Photography Workshop with VIP
Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary Tour
You’ve spent hours watching YouTube tutorials. You’ve memorized settings, read blogs, followed the advice. But when the moment finally arrives in the wild, everything falls apart.
The light is golden. A moose steps into view. You lift your camera. Your heart races. You press the shutter.
Blurry.
Out of focus.
Underexposed.
And just like that, it’s gone. The photo doesn’t match the feeling. The magic didn’t make it into the frame.
This workshop is where that all changes!
Instead of more theory, you’ll get hands-on experience. Real conditions. Real wildlife. Real-time coaching while you’re in the moment. No more second-guessing. No more figuring it out later.
We’ll spend the first day fully immersed in Algonquin Park, helping you build the confidence and skills you need to photograph in the wild. Then the next morning, you’ll bring everything you learned to life at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, where you'll get closer, more intentional access to rescued wildlife during a private VIP photography session.
This isn’t just about improving your camera skills. It’s about building confidence, deepening your connection to nature, and creating images that reflect what you felt out there. Whether you're just getting started or you’ve been at this for a while, this workshop meets you right where you are.

What You’ll Learn
By the end of the day, you’ll know how to:
Move beyond auto mode and take full control of your settings.
Capture sharp, powerful wildlife images even when subjects are moving.
Understand light and how to use it to your advantage in natural settings.
Compose stronger, more intentional photographs.
Use slower shutter speeds to create softness and motion in waterfalls.
Anticipate wildlife behaviour and shoot ethically and respectfully.
Tell a story with your photos instead of just documenting a scene.
Slow down, notice more, and create with purpose.
We’ll guide you through it all. You won’t be left guessing.
No egos, all fun!
Day 1 - Your Full Day in Algonquin
This is a fully private experience. Just you and up to two guests you choose to bring along. No group crowds. No rushing from stop to stop.
We begin at sunrise and stay out until you decide it’s time to call it a day. Whether you're chasing morning light on a misty lake or waiting patiently by a quiet trail, the entire day is built around your comfort, curiosity, and goals.
You’ll receive real-time guidance on your camera settings, lens choices, composition, lighting, wildlife behavior, and creative decision-making. It’s all in the moment, on-location, and tailored to your pace.
What to Bring:
Your DSLR or mirrorless camera
Any lenses you’d like to use (telephoto and wider angle if possible)
A tripod if you have one
Weather-appropriate clothing and gear for the season
Snacks, water, and a sense of curiosity
After booking, we’ll send you the exact meeting location. Most of our guests stay near Huntsville, Ontario, about 30 minutes from Algonquin’s West Gate.
Please Note: This workshop focuses solely on photography instruction and guiding. Travel, accommodations, and meals are not included.

Day 2 - The Aspen Valley Experience
On the morning of day two, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy up to four hours of VIP photography access at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. This private session offers more than their regular tours by giving you extended time, unobstructed views, and a chance to get closer to the animals without the distraction of large crowds.
It's a peaceful and respectful environment, perfect for slowing down, applying what you learned in Algonquin the day before, and creating meaningful images at your own pace.
But it goes beyond photography.
We believe in giving back to the places and causes we care about, and this part of the experience gives you that opportunity too. While we are donating our time, you are making an impact as well. A total of $465 from your workshop fee goes directly to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary as a donation.
You are not just capturing beautiful images. You are helping support the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of animals who call Aspen home. It is something we deeply believe in, and we are proud to share it with you.
Photographing With Ethics
We love wildlife however wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. We don’t bait, feed, or pressure animals for the sake of a photo. What we do offer is the experience, knowledge, and awareness to help you recognize patterns, read behaviour, and return to nature with a more trained and ethical eye.
Even if an animal doesn’t appear, you’ll leave with new skills, renewed focus, and the confidence to return to Algonquin Park or any wild place with purpose and preparation. The goal isn’t to fill a checklist. It’s to build a lasting relationship with the landscape and learn how to see what’s always been there.
If you’re after guaranteed moose selfies, this might not be the right fit. But if you’re looking for a deeper, more meaningful experience with your camera and the natural world, we’d love to guide you through it!

F.A.Q.
What's guaranteed?
Wildlife is not guaranteed, and that’s what keeps it honest. We don’t bait, stage, or rush anything for the sake of a photo. What we can promise is this: you’ll learn more in one day than you thought possible and leave with a stronger connection to both your camera and the wild.
How much experience do I need?
None. Whether you’re just starting out or have some experience, but want more clarity and confidence, this workshop is designed to meet you where you are.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. Your booking includes up to two guests at no extra charge. Bring a friend, a partner, or a fellow photography enthusiast.
What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
Some of the best images come from fog, rain, snow, and unexpected light. We don’t cancel for weather unless it’s unsafe. If rescheduling is needed, we’ll work with you to find a new date.
How long is the workshop?
We start at sunrise and wrap around sunset. The pace is gentle and flexible. You decide when to take breaks or call it a day.
Where do we meet?
We’ll send the exact location once your booking is confirmed. Most guests stay in or near Huntsville, Ontario.
Is food provided?
No. Please bring your own food, water, and snacks. We build in time to eat and rest.
Can I join if I’m visiting from out of the country?
Yes. Many of our guests travel to take part. We recommend booking a rental vehicle in advance as there is no public transit in the park.
What’s the cancellation policy?
All workshop fees are non-refundable. However, bookings are transferable. If something comes up, we’re happy to reschedule with as much notice as possible, depending on availability.
What kind of camera should I bring?
Any DSLR or mirrorless camera is great. If you’re unsure, just reach out and we’ll help you decide what to bring.
Do I need a tripod?
Bring it if you have one. It’s especially helpful for waterfalls and low-light scenes. If you don’t have one, that’s okay, too. We’ll work with whatever gear you have.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. Just let us know who it’s for and we’ll send you a digital or printable certificate.
Will I learn editing too?
This workshop focuses on photography in the field. If you’re interested in editing, ask us about separate sessions and options for post-processing instruction.
What are the physical requirements?
Our workshops are designed to be inclusive and accessible. While there are some short walks on uneven terrain and a few hikes to breathtaking lookout points, we understand that not everyone prefers extensive walking or hiking. We won’t be hiking for many hours at a time, so you can feel at ease. We’ll customize each itinerary based on you and your guests’ abilities and interests, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.
What should I bring to the workshop?
Gear up according to your preferences. Every participant finds value and learning opportunities, whether using a camera phone, a DSLR, or a mirrorless camera. Here’s a general list of recommended gear to enhance your experience:
• DSLR or mirrorless camera body
• Wide-angle lenses for landscapes
• Telephoto lenses for wildlife
• Sturdy tripod
• ND filters and polarizers (optional but can be helpful)
• Extra batteries and memory cards
• Seasonal clothing
• Headlamp
• Rain protection
• Bug jacket
• Sunscreen
• Water bottles and snacks
• Proper footwear for the season
• Crampons in icy conditions
Please note: Not all items are required. We’ll discuss specific recommendations before your workshop date to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
